Kidston Hydro

The Project

Genex Power’s K2-Hydro is the flagship project within the Kidston Clean Energy Hub, located in Far North Queensland. It is Australia’s first pumped hydro project in more than 40 years and will become the nation’s third-largest electricity storage facility once operational. A1 Earthworx supported major civil components of the Wises Dam development, contributing to one of the most significant renewable energy infrastructure projects in Australia.

The Scope

  • Delivery of civil works for the Wises Dam project, including:
    • A 35 m high vertical embankment on a 70 m total slope
  • Bulk earthworks for the Wises Pit Dam embankment and inlet canal, including:
    • 2.1 million m³ of material cut
    • 1.3 million m³ of rock fill placed
  • Construction of a compacted embankment spanning 5,448 m around the perimeter
